In the days leading up to E3, the news broke that both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 were years away from launch . After learning this, many assumed this meant that neither game would show up at E3. However, Kingdom Hearts 3 actually did get a new trailer, whereas Final Fantasy 7 Remake wasn’t even mentioned. There have been rumblings that Final Fantasy 7 Remake has undergone some serious development struggles behind the scenes, but hopefully those fears will be put to rest the next time we see the game in action, whenever that may

There’s something odd about an HD port built for a console which itself has games that are being ported to a superior console. Let’s reflect on Fable Anniversary for a second: it’s a 2014 Xbox 360 remake of an Xbox game from 2004. We’re in an age where people are demanding for spectacular looking games like Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us to be ported to Xbox One and PS4, and this is an Xbox 360 port of an original Xbox game. As such, judging it is fairly hard to do after spending countless hours over the past few months scrutinizing next-gen ports like Tomb Raider, Madden 25 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, when Fable Anniversary would be a resounding success if it matched the 360 quality of any of them. Still, while a remake of Fable might have been better suited for release before Fable II or as a three-pack with its sequels on Xbox One before Fable IV (please?), the sheer fact that Lionhead and Microsoft care to do it at all is great fan service for players who have had to deal with an antiquated game — classic as it may be.

Project Ego sounded like nothing I had played before. Being able to pick and choose which quests to take wasn’t exactly groundbreaking, but the idea of the game taking place across the character’s lifetime was intriguing. There was talk about how the character would be designed and uniquely tailored to the player’s gameplay and they would be able to have children that would have a significant impact in the world. The character would receive unique scars from battle, they could plant a sapling and watch it grow in a massive tree throughout the course of the game and the NPCs would have unique reactions to the player based on their deeds to create the sense of a living world the player was truly a part of.

There were many secrets to discover in Albion, which was necessary to pad out the game. The main story campaign was short by RPG standards, so having optional side quests and secrets added value to the title. Demon doors would have treasures such as legendary weapons if you could solve the riddle to open them and there were many silver keys scattered across the land they were needed to open silver treasure boxes. They may have have fixed this in the subsequent reissues of Fable, but in the original Xbox version there was a glitch to get unlimited silver keys. This worked by getting a key, doing a hero save but not a world save and then load the file. The character will have the key in their inventory and the key will be waiting to be collected in its original spot.

Originally slated for release this fall, Red Dead Redemption 2 was recently delayed into next year. Even so, the game really isn’t all that far off in the grand scheme of things, so one would have imagined that Rockstar would have used E3 to give fans a deeper dive into its gameplay features, story, and characters. On the contrary, Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn’t seen during any of the big press conferences, and since it could launch before next year’s E3, it may never be seen at the show at

To be fair, we were warned ahead of time that Death Stranding wouldn’t be at E3 2017. Even so, Hideo Kojima’s reputation for tricking fans meant that there was still a slim possibility the game would make a surprise appearance during Sony’s E3 press conference. Unfortunately, Death Stranding was nowhere to be seen at the show, meaning fans are still largely in the dark about its gameplay features, story, and whether or not there is any truth to the Emma Stone casting rumo

Another big improvement is that of the interfaces. The previous ones were rough even in 2004, seeming basic enough to be more at home with PS1-era games. Thankfully, they’ve been completely overhauled for this release, matching up better with the subsequent Fable games. Navigation-wise, they’re a bit too clumsy. The triggers, shoulders buttons and analog sticks all come into play when scrolling around, resulting in a learning curve that shouldn’t exist for menus. Still, there’s only so much that can be done and at least the old interface wasn’t simply re-skinned.

From Death Stranding to Visceral’s mysterious Star Wars game, these are the 10 adventure games treasure maps we missed the most at E3 2017. Hopefully these games make an appearance at next year’s show, as they would all go a long way in making E3 2018 an event to remem

Particularly troublesome are «crossover» attacks, in which the player needs to target an enemy on the left side of the screen with his or her right hand, or vice versa. The Journey actually warns players against crossing their arms over themselves, but it is often inescapably necessary. While it’s true that The Journey’s combat controls work much more reliably than its driving controls, that’s cold comfort when it’s all but impossible to accurately target a given enemy, and the player ends up dying as a result. Fortunately, The Journey isn’t particularly difficult, and ample checkpoints ensure that there is never too much of the game to rep
